Ibiza Project
“The idea that there is less atmosphere during the week is still very present, but it does not reflect the current reality of the islands.”
“It's not about getting everything right, but about choosing what's most important for each trip.”
When organizing a trip to Ibiza or Formentera, booking accommodation is usually resolved quickly.Location, price, a photo or two… and that’s it.But on these islands, that decision carries more weight than it might seem. Not just for the sake of convenience, but because it directly shapes how the trip is experienced: travel, plans, the pace of life.
Therefore, rather than looking for "the perfect hotel", it makes more sense to understand how Ibiza and Formentera actually work when it comes to accommodation.
When to travel: Ibiza is also a good option during the week
One of the most common mistakes is concentrating the trip on the weekend. The idea that there is less atmosphere during the week is still very present, but it does not reflect the current reality of the islands. Both Ibiza and Formentera maintain a constant buzz throughout the week. There's plenty going on, activities to do, restaurants open, and a lively atmosphere to enjoy yourself without feeling empty.
In fact, traveling during the week is often a better decision in many cases:
● Hotel rates are generally lower
● There is greater availability and more options to choose from.
● The experience is smoother, with less saturation at certain times
The journey doesn't lose intensity. It gains momentum.
Location: there is no perfect spot (and that's a good sign)
Another big question is where to stay. And here it's important to adjust expectations: there is no perfect location that has it all.Ibiza and Formentera operate through balance. In Ibiza, as a general reference:
● The north (San Juan, Santa Gertrudis and surrounding areas) offers a more tranquil, natural and peaceful environment
● The west combines more energetic areas with more relaxed spaces, and also boasts some of the best sunsets on the island.
● The south and areas like Playa d’en Bossa or Ses Salines have more dynamism and are closer to certain key points
● Ibiza town and its surroundings are easy to get around and offer an interesting mix of local life and activity.
In Formentera, the logic is different, but just as clear:
● Es Pujols is the liveliest area, especially in the afternoon and evening. Staying here allows you to enjoy the area's attractions without constantly having to travel around.
● Other areas of the island offer more tranquility, but involve greater dependence on transport.
In both destinations, the choice always comes down to prioritizing:
More peace and quiet? Closer to the beach? More atmosphere? Easier to get around?
It's not about getting everything right, but about choosing what's most important for each trip.
One important detail: the most spectacular areas do not have hotels
Something that surprises many travelers is that some of the most beautiful areas of Ibiza and Formentera do not have accommodation. And that is precisely what makes them special. Natural parks, protected areas, and spaces where intervention is minimal. Places designed to be enjoyed, not urbanized.
This means that, in practice, staying near a specific beach is not always possible… or necessary. Moving is part of the journey. And, in fact, it's one of the best ways to discover the diversity of both islands.
Beaches, activity, and realistic expectations
Unlike other destinations, hotels in Ibiza and Formentera do not usually offer included beach service.
There is no dynamic of "getting out of the hotel and having everything sorted out".Here, the usual thing is to move around, change beaches, and explore different coves and environments. This, far from being a drawback, is part of the experience.
Every day can be different. Every area has its own character. And the journey is also built on that movement. Therefore, it is advisable not to view the stay as something static.
Type of accommodation: why all-inclusive is not recommended
Another relevant aspect is the type of regime.
In both Ibiza and Formentera, the selection of all-inclusive hotels is limited. And, generally speaking, it's not the most advisable option. Choosing bed and breakfast (BB) is usually the most suitable alternative.
Allows:
● To have freedom of movement
● Discover the local cuisine
● Adapt each day without depending on fixed schedules
The islands invite you to go out, to try new things, to improvise. The accommodation accompanies the journey, but does not enclose it.
And we conclude with…
Booking accommodation in Ibiza or Formentera is not just about finding availability. It's about understanding how the islands work.
It's about accepting that there isn't just one right answer. It's about prioritizing based on the type of trip. And it's about leaving room for discovery.
Because, in the end, part of the experience lies precisely there: in not doing everything from the same place, in moving around, in exploring, in letting each day have something different.
And choosing the right place to stay is simply the first step to making that happen.
