Chiringuitos in Ibiza: hidden treasures, increasingly rare

They are a symbol of Ibiza, yet it's getting harder and harder to find them. Here we present you a selection of chiringuitos still on and popular, including legendary spots and others more recently opened.

Chiringuitos are typical bars of the Spanish coast and islands, emblem of a way of living and enjoying the beach, which involves basically drinking in company and good music.

In the beautiful coves and the simple spirit of old Ibiza, they have naturally found an ideal environment.

They are normally wooden kiosks, basic and somehow 'temporary' looking tentative, traditionally offering their customers background music and drinks at low prices, sometimes accompanied by tasting of local food. The typical sangria and ice cold cerveza are always in the menu.

Simply, the perfect ambience where to enjoy the legendary sunsets of the island.

Times change though, together with the types of tourism, and today in the busier beaches dominate the most modern and exclusive beach bars, featuring a different kind of service and philosophy.

Yet traditions die hard, and in recent years there has been also a revival of these spots that preserve discreetly the core spirit of the Ibiza fun.

WHERE

Las Salinas: SA TRINXA BEACH BAR
One of the historic bars, located at the far end of one of the most popular beach on the island. Active since the '70s, it's been always known for offering great music and its popularity remains untouched, thanks to the traditional mix of quality food, good drinks and real Ibizan atmosphere.

Cala Mastella: EL BIGOTES
Its long-standing reputation is built around the legendary 'bullit de peix', cooked with seafood freshly caught by the family of Juan Ferrer, the founder. Even today, the dish is offered regularly, with almost no alternatives, only at lunch. A place autenthic and out of time, that resists the temptation of change.

Cala Tarida: SES EUFABIES
Originally, in the '50s, it was one of the few construction of the beach. Following the growth of San Antonio as a tourist destination on the island, the kiosk has turned into something more like a small restaurant, but always maintaining a rustic look and ambience. Varied cuisine, always traditional and excellent, as were the drinks.

Talamanca: CHIRINGUITO ALEGRIA
One of our favorites, right on the sand of Talamanca, the quieter and most authentic beach in Ibiza city area. At the sunset, Alegria often features live music performance which, thanks to one of the best mojitos on the island, turn normally into improvised parties, cheerful and engaging.

Es Canar: CHIRINCANA
Inside a campsite, this is one of the places that best preserves the old 'hippie' spirit of Ibiza. The environment is of course basic and rustic, but people come here for the energy and the relaxing, positive atmosphere. The place hosts excellent live music nights, with local and foreign bands.
